Things I Do To Relieve Stress & Practice Self-Care

Let’s talk about stress. Although I consider myself more of an extrovert and don’t suffer from bad anxiety like many other people, I definitely have build-ups and have learned to make it a priority to take a step back and care of myself, stressed or not. While I don’t always have the luxury of going to the spa consistently, I definitely make the most of what I have when I need some extra self-love. For me, a big part of the battle against stress involves incorporating activities and rituals throughout my day that help me to stay present and positive. Keep reading to find out some stress-relieving activities I try to incorporate daily and maybe find some tips for yourself along the way.

Morning Ritual

Mornings are pretty hectic with my schedule—I’m sure I am not the only one! I often wake up, going from zero to 100, which elevates my heart rate and causes my mind to race about the tasks I have planned in the day. It wasn’t until I implemented a few morning rituals that were realistic for me that I started to feel more calm and organized for the day ahead.

Every morning, I first turn off my alarm and avoid looking at my phone until I leave my house. I start my morning off with a glass of warm water, a squeeze of a lemon, and a pinch of Himalayan sea salt. I get up early enough to make my own breakfast, sit down, and enjoy time to just wake up. Every. Single. Day.

Next, I begin my beauty routine. I wash my face, apply my hyaluronic acid, serum, and SPF. I brush my hair, my teeth, and apply my makeup (if any) I want that day. Using this time to focus on my skincare is calming in its self but it also provides for self-care. A goal I try to incorporate is making my bed every morning…but I am still working on it.

I once received a diffuser for my room and fell in love with it. The soft floral yet peaceful aroma of my jasmine essential oil has an instant uplifting effect. it’s the perfect un-wind for the end of my day. I use my diffuser every night and my room instantly turns into a DIY spa.

You might not realize the practice of self-care when you aren’t doing a facial or getting a massage, but one of of my “practices” to relieve stress is actually writing this. Yep, you read that correctly… this blog is a way for me to un-wind and take time for my goals. Another thing I love to do is listening to podcasts. This is a great alternative because it allows me to still “do” something with a quiet and effortless focus. I find listening is one of the easiest and most fun ways to stay mindful and ultimately reduce stress. Both writing on this blog and listening to podcasts are things I do to further my goals and learn from. Relaxing and productive.

We all know that exercise releases plenty of endorphins and leaves you feeling refreshed. That is why yoga is a great way to not only release stress, but also improve your practice and give yourself a small challenge everyday. I do hot yoga classes at HYLO Fitness three to four times a week. needless to say, it is much needed.

 
 
 

Night-Time Meditation

Every night, after I turn on my diffuser and am ready for bed, I turn on my favorite meditation app, Insight Timer. It offers free meditation sequences and is the cure for a restless night.
